Only three trumps carry an element rather than a planet or a sign, and they are the largest cards in the deck for that reason. An elemental trump is not describing a circumstance; it is describing the medium the whole question is suspended in.

Number 0 in the sequence

The Major Arcana are ordered, and the order is the argument. The Fool is number 0 and its job in the sequence is the one who has not started. Nothing has been decided and nothing has been lost. Everything the other twenty-one cards describe is still available, which is a condition nobody is in for long.

It sits in before the sequence. The Fool is numbered zero and stands outside the three acts. It is the position everybody occupies before the first card and returns to after the last.

What reversal actually does here

A reversed card is not the opposite of the upright one. That is the most common misunderstanding in the deck, and it produces readings in which every second card contradicts the one before it. A reversal blocks, delays, turns inward, or overextends — and which of those it is depends on what kind of card is upside down.

A trump reversed is a life theme that is being resisted, delayed, or lived out privately rather than openly. The theme does not go away when the card is upside down — it goes underground, which is usually harder.
