The King of Cups is deep feeling that does not spill. It is a water card, so what it reports is the emotion itself, before anything has been done with it rather than the whole of what they feel.
Upright and reversed

A reversal is not the opposite of the upright card. It blocks it, delays it, turns it inward or takes it too far, and which of those depends on the kind of card it is.
Upright
The King of Cups is deep feeling that does not spill. This person is emotionally substantial and emotionally contained — the calm one, the one others bring their problems to — and what they feel for you is held steady rather than displayed. That combination is easy to mistake for distance, and it rarely is. The card describes maturity, and its honest weakness is the same as its strength: a person this practised at managing feeling can go years without saying one out loud.
Reversed
Reversed, the control has become suppression or has failed. Either nothing is being allowed out at all, or the calm has gone and something is being expressed sideways by somebody unused to expressing it.
