The Ten of Cups is the long view of feeling. It is a water card, so what it reports is the emotion itself, before anything has been done with it rather than the whole of what they feel.
Upright and reversed

A reversal is not the opposite of the upright card. It blocks it, delays it, turns it inward or takes it too far, and which of those depends on the kind of card it is.
Upright
The Ten of Cups is the long view of feeling. What is felt extends past the present into an imagined future that includes home, family and the ordinary years — and it is felt warmly rather than anxiously. This is the strongest card in the deck for emotional commitment, and it is about belonging rather than passion. It says less about heat than the Knights do and far more about permanence. When it appears for a connection that has not been named yet, it usually means somebody has been thinking much further ahead than they have let on.
Reversed
Reversed, the picture and the reality have separated. Either the ideal is being measured against a life that does not match it, or something in the shared future has quietly stopped being shared.
Reversed late in a suit, the card usually reads as excess or as refusal to finish. Either the feeling has been taken past its useful point, or a conclusion is being avoided because reaching it would mean something.

For a connection that has ended, Cups is the suit that tells the truth and the suit that resolves nothing. The feeling described is real and its persistence is not by itself a reason to expect anything. This late in the suit the feeling has run most of its course, so what the card describes is a settled state rather than an open question.

When nothing has been said, a Cups card usually means the silence is not indifference. Water holds; it does not announce.
